I attended an interesting class with a group of acupuncturists. We had a case study about a very active 70+ lady who takes very good care of herself. Relatively suddenly she developed extreme pain in her muscles and had difficulty standing.
The practitioner was tempted to blame age as the probable cause of her difficulties; however, after some investigation with her MD, they realized that her statin dosage had recently been doubled. A primary complication of statins can be muscle cramps, pain and weakness - AND theses symptoms can be irreversible. When the patient received her initial Rx for statins, several years prior, she was warned about this side effect. The warning was not repeated when her dosge was indreased. Once her statins were stopped, the symptoms disappeared and she regained her previous normal status. Be careful before you blame a new symptom on AGE.
